Embodied Attunement & Discernment in Gestalt Therapy: A Training Workshop in Gestalt Clinical Practice

Gestalt students learn principles of contact, mostly working with each other and then face the task of applying this basic methodology to a broad range of clients. Our everyday clients are situated in a range of contextual grounds and are often not believers nor experienced in the Gestalt approach. We need to collaborate with them in a fresh, sensory/thoughtful practice, bridging from our approach to their lives and creating opportunities for acknowledgment of their experience and growth.
This workshop is intended for Gestalt trainees and practitioners who want to hone their skills and apply Embodied Gestalt therapy with discernment for the client and the contextual situation.  Discernment is the practice of assessing this client in this moment and intervening in ways to support and optimize their experience. We do this through our embodied attunement and sensory connection with them in collaboration with their direct experience.
A large part of this workshop will focus on shuttling between the tracking of process and our immersion in the embodied relational atmosphere of the client/therapist/field. This co-assessment is an alternative to extrinsic diagnosis exploring more than and including our own “felt sense” with the client.
We will practice working with more awareness and intention of our embodied relational and phenomenological method through demonstrations, lab practices and discussions. Participants are encouraged to bring a case example of a client that you might focus on in a confidentially based practice.
