The Social Construction of Identity and the Gestalt Response

Meeting at the contact boundary with difference invites participants into deeper awareness of how identity is formed relationally, shaped within cultural, historical, and political fields that are rarely neutral. This workshop proceeds from a simple but radical premise: colonization does not live only in history; it lives in bodies, in relationships, in language, and in the subtle textures of co-created spaces.
This experiential workshop engages participants in phenomenological and somatic inquiry into how colonization, migration, and displacement shape identity and contact.

Instructor

Sheldon Holder, Alumni

Sheldon Holder is an activist, musician, writer and trainer. His work is grounded in anti-oppression, decolonial thought and the somatic and relational dimensions of racial identity. He has run workshops at the GIT and at the IAAGT conference.

Sukriti Sharma, RP, Alumni

Sukrita Sharma is a Registered Psychotherapist and graduate of GIT’s Five Year Training Program. She works with clients navigating immigration, life transitions, grief, chronic illness and the particular challenges faced by marginalized communities.

Zena Alrawdah, Therapist in Training

Zena is a Student Therapist at the GIT whose Gestalt practice is rooted in presentcentred
awareness and a deep attentiveness to how culture, family history and
social context shape contact with self and others.
