The Supervisory Relationship: A Supervision Training Program

 

This program meets the standards set out by CRPO for competence as a clinical supervisor while being specifically designed to support the Gestalt practitioner of embodied relational field sensitive practice.

 

To attend this program, participants must meet the following requirements:

 

          • Be a registered psychotherapist in independent practice, in good
          • standing with CRPO*
          • Have a minimum of 5 years clinical experience in contemporary Gestalt therapy
          • Be familiar with the CRPO Professional Practice Standards for Registered
          • Psychotherapists

 

*Members of one of the six colleges authorized to practice the controlled act of psychotherapy are also welcome to apply.

 

A clinical supervisor who is a member of one of the six colleges authorized to practice the controlled act may see a GIT student for part of their supervision hours although the majority of the 30 supervision hours required for graduation must be provided by an RP.

 

Applicants are requested to send a letter of intent including confirmation of requirements to the Director of Training at the GIT. 

 

Upon successful completion of this thirty hour program, participants will be able to provide developmental supervision to graduates, and to psychotherapy trainees upon approval, as well as:

 

        • Provide developmental supervision to graduates, and to psychotherapy
        • trainees upon approval.
        • Contract with supervisees, to plan a structured approach to co-create the
        • relationship within the field perspective of Gestalt therapy
        • Ensure the legal and ethical guidelines of all parties are met during the
        • ongoing relationship
        • Structure two-way developmental feedback between the supervisee and the
        • supervisor: the experience at the contact boundary
        • Meet the ethical and legal requirements of note-taking and file management
        • Establish clarity of the supervisors role in providing supervision versus therapy
        • Use various methods and approaches needed to develop the knowledge, skills and abilities of supervisees, trained in embodied
        • relational Gestalt practice
        • Recognize and acknowledge the importance of diversity in the supervisor relationship
        • Understand the limitations and benefits of technology use and the legal and ethical considerations
        • Explain the fundamentals of structuring the initial, ongoing and termination sessions
        • Use the supervisor role to maintain critical reflection in both a theoretical and practical level.
