In Western societies, psychopathology is considered a mental illness affecting a specific individual. This individualistic and intrapsychic model changes completely when human suffering is considered within a field theory framework, as offered by Gestalt Therapy.
According to this approach, humans create “fields of suffering” that form and affect not only an isolated individual but also all the people who co-create these fields with them throughout their lives. These fields of suffering are characterized by their rigidity and persistence, which is the fundamental criterion of human suffering. Another characteristic is that they are based on “personal patterns such as acts of love.”
This seminar will explain and offer hypotheses regarding the formation of psychopathological or suffering fields, their diagnosis, and their psychotherapeutic use in clinical sessions. Some practical, experiential demonstrations and supervision sessions will be available.
