Sitting With Silence: A Gestalt Exploration
Gestalt therapy has roots in Zen - Fritz Perls traveled to Japan and incorporated his learnings into Gestalt theory. For Gestalt therapists, silence is an important part of the process, to be in a state of nothingness, which allows something novel or creative to emerge - either from the therapist or the client. This silence is what Perls called the experience of the fertile void.
